NEW CARLISLE - Pauline J. Johnson, 85, of New Carlisle, IN, passed away at 12:40 a.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2014, at I.U. Health LaPorte Hospital in LaPorte, IN, following a brief illness. She was born on April 9, 1929, to the late Walter J. and Stella (Dudeck) Kantorowski in Edwards-burg, MI, and had lived in New Carlisle since 1951. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepmother, Hattie Wojtysiak; and several sisters and step-sisters; brothers and step-brothers. Pauline and her husband, Elmer, were the owners of the former Johnson Country Food Mart in Hudson Lake, IN. She also had a booth at the Farmers Market in South Bend with her father, and then later with her husband, Elmer. Pauline graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in South Bend, IN, in 1947. On May 5, 1951, as Pauline J. Kantorowski, she married Elmer J. Johnson at St. John Kanty Catholic Church in Rolling Prairie, IN. He died on June 8, 1991. She is survived by her two daughters, Sharon Johnson of New Carlisle, IN; Mercedes "Mimi" (Brian) Herwehe of LaPorte, IN; one son, Matthew Johnson of New Carlisle, IN; two grandchildren, Brent and Scott Herwehe, both of LaPorte, IN; one brother, George (Barb) Kantorowski of Zephyrhills, FL; two step-sisters, Irene and Joan; and one step-brother, John. Pauline was a member of St. John Kanty Parish in Rolling Prairie, IN. She enjoyed doing crafts and puzzles; and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and friends at the Farmer's Market in South Bend, IN. Visitation will be from 5 8 p.m. E.S.T. Friday, June 13, 2014, at Kaniewski Funeral Home, 201 S. Filbert Street, New Carlisle, IN, where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 p.m. E.S.T. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. E.S.T. Saturday, June 14, 2014, at St. John Kanty Catholic Church in Rolling Prairie, IN. Burial will follow at St. John Kanty Cemetery.
