============

Louis J. Kurz, Jr., 76, passed away at 3:15 p.m. Saturday, July 10, 2010 at Memorial Hospital of South Bend after a yearlong battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born December 23, 1933 in South Bend, the son of Louis F. & Martha M. (Tschida) Kurz, and has remained a lifelong resident of this community. He graduated from James Whitcomb Riley High School and received his Tool & Die apprenticeship from Martin Machine. Louie also proudly served his country in the United States Army. On May 23, 1959, in South Bend, he was united in marriage to Janice L. Tetzlaff who survives. Also surviving is his son, David Kurz of Mishawaka; his daughter, Shelly Kurz of South Bend; two sisters, Margaret Romwalter and Mary Ann (John) Brooks, both of South Bend; and many sister & brother-in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins. His grand-dogs, Nicholas, Mattie, & Megan survive him as well. His parents and his beloved dogs, Buffy and Beppi, preceded him in death. Louie retired from Alco Tool Supply in December 2008 after 18 years of service. Previously, he worked at Martin Machine, Thunander Corp., and Bendix Corp. Louie will be remembered by those who knew him well as a man of integrity. He greatly valued the relationships he had with family, friends and customers. And as a lover of animals, he especially enjoyed all the neighborhood dogs stopping to visit him on their daily walks. Louie's family wishes to send a special thanks to the 10th floor oncology nurses and staff at Memorial Hospital for taking such good care of him. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 14, at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 South Michigan Street, South Bend. Rev. Ralph Ringenberg will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow at Sumption Prairie Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 - 8:00p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Contributions in memory of Mr. Kurz may be offered to the Humane Society of St. Joseph County, 2506 Grape Road, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
