James (Jim) Michael Discavage, 73, passed away at 7:45 am on Tuesday, June 16, 2015 in his residence. ames was born September 20, 1941 in South Bend to the late Frank and Alice (Bikowski) Discavage. James is survived by his Domestic Partner, Sheryl Wagner of Buchanan; daughters Raquel (James Jr.) Russell of North Liberty, and Elea (Jason) Hoffsetz of Noblesville; step-daughters, Deborah (Richard) Hudak of Granger, Wendy (Fred) Cotton of Carpentersville, IL; ex-wife, Candyce Discavage of South Bend; Grndchildren: Sean and Sara Russell, Emma and Katie Hoffsetz, Lauren and Andrea Hudak, Caroline and Chloe Cotton. He is also survived by an uncle and aunt, Stanley Bikowski and Sister Mary Paulita, as well as several cousins.
Jim graduated from Washington H.S., Purdue University with a Pharmacy Degree, and IUSB with Masters’ degrees in Business and in Public Administration.Jim worked for St. Joseph Regional Medical Center and Holy Cross Health System for over 20 years. He then became Vice President of Pharmaceutical Purchasing for Amerinet in St. Louis. He also was a member of the American Pharmaceutical Association. Jim proudly served in the Indiana National Guard as a medic from 1964 - 1970, and was activated during the Palm Sunday Tornado Disaster of 1965. Jim enjoyed fishing, farming, gardening, as well as being Mr. Fix It, building and tinkering. He loved history and science and was an avid reader. Jim’s greatest enjoyment was attending his grandchildren’s activities; horse shows, sporting events and various performances. In his later years, he thoroughly enjoyed spending the 4th of July at Birch Lake with his family. Jim had a very wry sense of humor and really enjoyed laughing and joking with family and friends. Per Jim’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm with a Memorial Service being held at 3pm on Friday, June 26, 2015 in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd. South Bend. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Millers Vets, 813 S. Michigan St. South Bend, IN 46601 or to Habitat for Humanity of St. Joseph County, 402 E. South St. South Bend, IN 46601.
