Dorothy Patricia Horvath, 97, of Dade City, FL passed away on Monday, October 23, 2017 at the Royal Oaks Nursing Home, Dade City. Born in South Bend, IN on August 21, 1920 she was a daughter of the late Casmier and Sara (Sopczynski) Dalke. Welcomed by Alice, Edward and Virginia and followed after birth by Ben, Florence and Joseph. They all went to a one room school house in North Liberty, IN. She left school after the 6th grade and was employed as a housekeeper and nannie until joining the U.S. Army on September 1, 1943. She served during World War II and was discharged on December 14, 1945. During her time in the Army her brother Ben introduced her to his wife’s cousin, William Horvath. William and Dorothy married on a two day furlough on May 1, 1945 at the Court House in South Bend, IN. Dorothy was honorably discharged as a Mess Sergeant with a Victory medal, Good Conduct medal and Theater Ribbon and WAAC Ribbon. In 1947 a son, William Joseph Horvath was born. They then bought a house in Normain Heights, a subdivision in Mishawaka, IN. In 1967 they moved to Ocala, FL. She was preceded in death by her husband, William in 1977 and her son, William Joseph in 2012. She lived with her daughter Sarose Vinson in Dade City, FL for the last few years. Dorothy is survived by her sister, Florence Sheets of Rancho Mirage, CA and many nieces, numerous great nieces and nephews and 4 granddaughters and 12 great grandchildren. Interment in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Ocala FL.
