Marie J. Szulczyk, 93, of South Bend, passed away on Wednesday at Healthwin Specialized Care Facility. She was born on March 19, 1926 in South Bend, to the late Jacob and Josephine (Jeske) Kalka and was a lifelong area resident. Her mother died giving birth to her and she was adopted by George and Helen Maciejewski and was raised with their three daughters, whom she loved dearly. On September 4, 1947, as Marie J. Kalka, she married Louis E. Szulczyk, who preceded her in death on November 1, 2003. Also preceding her in death were a daughter, Joyce Ann Szulczyk and a great-granddaughter, Emma. Marie is survived by her daughters, Kathleen (Arthur) Trytko and Sandra (George) Heeter of South Bend; two sons, Kenneth (Elizabeth) Szulczyk of South Bend and James (Diane) Szulczyk of Mishawaka; 26 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. Marie worked as an Assembler at Wilson Brothers for 6 years and Ball Band for 13 years. She was a St. Casimir and Washington High School graduate. Marie was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, the Rosary Sodality and the Polish National Alliance. She loved to bowl, bake cakes for weddings and loved being around her family. Marie was a warm and loving mother and grandmother. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Dr., South Bend, where a Rosary will prayed at 4:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday at Holy Family Catholic Church, 56405 S. Mayflower Rd., South Bend.
