Dorothy Elizabeth DeFreese, 98, formerly of Elkhart, died at 6 p.m. Wednesday Jan. 7, 2003 at Cass County Health Care. She was born Sept. 1, 1905 in Elkhart to Charles F. and Sarah M. (Beehler) Noffsinger. Ms. DeFreese is survived by a son Charles L. DeFreese of Edwardsburg; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Two sisters, Mildred Brenneman and Beatrice Swartz, preceded her in death. Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Hartz-Gutermuth-Inman Funeral Home, Elkhart, where the 10 a.m. monday service will be held. burial will be in Rice Cemetery. Ms. DeFreese worked 25 years at S.S. Kresge Co. in downtown Elkhart, retiring in 1974. She attended Elkhart High School and was a member of Women of the Moose.
