South Bend - Irene B. Wruble, 94, passed away on Saturday, August 21, 2021. Irene was born November 16, 1926 in East Chicago, IN to the late Michael and Veronica (Piskorz) Thomas. On April 14, 1945 Irene married Stanley Wruble, Sr. He preceded her in death on March 4, 2005. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Eileen Clingerman; son, Steven Wruble; granddaughter, Veronica; great-grandson, Ethan Arashiro; sisters, Theresa Waggoner & Laura Kowalski; and brother, Bernard Thomas. Left to cherish the memory of Irene are her children, Lynda (Frank) Lanko, Stanley F. (Cathleen) Wruble, II, Frank (Katrina) Wruble; daughter-in-law, Diane Wruble; grandchildren, Jennifer (Abdo) Mokhtar, Suzy (Amir) Clingerman, Frank Joseph (Heidi) Lanko, Renie (Art) Wolf, Timothy (Mistelle) Lanko, Stan (London) Wruble, III, Leah Steinhiser, Todd Wruble, Susan (Chad) Arashiro Matthew (Colleen) Wruble, Holly (Brandon) Sims, Eric Wruble; 17 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Richard Thomas; and sisters-in-law, Jean Boijtor, Irene Wruble, and Angie Campoli. Irene was a parishioner of St. Jude Catholic Church, where she also volunteered to clean the church and assist with funeral lunches. She graduated from Greene High School class of 1944. Irene worked at Smolder Bros. as a seamstress during the war. She enjoyed sewing, especially making costumes for her grandchildren, doll clothes for family children and sold them at Burkholder in Nappanee. In her younger years she loved to go fishing with her husband and children. Irene became an expert at untangling fishing lines. In her later years, she enjoyed playing cards with her family, Bingo, jigsaw puzzles, and was excellent at crossword puzzles. She loved to listen to Big Band music and her favorite singer, Gene Autry. Irene was a wonderful caring mother to her 5 children and also a devoted grandmother. She loved family gatherings. Irene will be forever loved and truly missed. The family would like to thank Southfield Village and Center for Hospice for the kindness and exceptional care provided to Irene. Visitation will be 4:00pm - 8:00pm on Wednesday, August 25, 2021 with a rosary to be prayed at 4:30pm in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, Mayflower Rd. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00am, Thursday, August 26, 2021 at St. Jude Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
