Catherine “Kay” Fortunata Catanzarite, 84, of Mishawaka, IN passed away on July 08, 2022 at St Joseph Regional Medical Center Hospital surrounded by her immediate family members. Kay was born March 05, 1938 in Mishawaka, IN to Antonio Natale and Mary Ann (Perri) Marando.She grew up in Mishawaka and was a 1956 graduate of Mishawaka High School. Kay remained a lifelong resident of Mishawaka, IN and was a parishioner of St. Monica’s Catholic Church, Queen of Peace Catholic Church, and a member of The Maria SS DiLoreto Lady’s Auxiliary aka the Daughters of DiLoreto. Kay married Frank Rocco Catanzarite at St. Monica’s Catholic Church in Mishawaka, IN on September 05, 1959. Kay was preceded in death by her parents Antonio and Mary, her in-laws Anthony and Anna Catanzarite, brothers Joseph and Dominic Marando, sisters-in-law Rose Marando, Mary and Joann Catanzarite and Bette Piraccini, brothers-in-law Joseph and Ross Catanzarite and Alfio Piraccini,and daughter-in-law Lynda Catanzarite. Surviving is her husband of 62 years Frank Catanzarite; and their three children, Michael (Cheryl) Catanzarite, Gino Catanzarite and Johanna Catanzarite-Pecsi (Louis Pecsi) all of Mishawaka. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren; Ashley Catanzarite, Alassandra Pecsi, Nick Miner, Lucas (Jill) Miner, Macy (Tim) Horton, 3 great grandchildren; Amara, Henry, and Harrison. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. In the early years of their marriage, Frank worked for the Mishawaka Fire Department and Michiana Wholesale so that Kay could stay home with their three children during their formative years. Her employment was mainly as an Administrative Assistant for C.J.Wood, Trinetics, Wheelabrator’s and St. Joseph County. In 1980, she found a place to work that she would cherish for many years: The University of Notre Dame, beginning in the Physics Department, then transferring to the Football office. She was employed as the Recruiting Secretary under Irish Head Coaches Gerry Faust and Lou Holtz. Her fondest memories working there included the 1988 National Championship season.A brief viewing will be held at Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 4508 Vistula Road, Mishawaka, IN on Wednesday July 13 from 9:30 - 11am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated immediately following the viewing with Father John Eze officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
