SOUTH BEND - Barbara Ellen (Farace) Deliyannides, 79, died on Monday, February 15, 2016, in South Bend, IN. Born on April 1, 1936, in Glenside, PA, she was the daughter of the late Samuel H. and Anna (Zimmerman) Farace. Barbara graduated from Cheltenham High School in 1954 and attended the University of Rochester. On July 2, 1955, she was married to John S. Deliyannides of Thessaloniki, Greece. Barbara worked tirelessly from home, bringing up five children, managing a busy household, extending generous hospitality to guests, and developing her creativity and expertise as a consummate seamstress, needlewoman, designer, and craftsman. Her knowledge and lifelong love of birds led her to volunteer as a docent and caregiver for wounded animals. Barbara was industrious and innovative, and approached all her endeavors with an infectious sense of wonder, a respect for order and exactitude, a strong aesthetic sensibility, and a generous and understanding spirit. Through strength, tenacity, and grace, Barbara survived cancer three times over three decades, and throughout her life, she committed each new day to care and concern for others. Barbara was a devoted and active member of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church for over 60 years. Her deep and abiding faith led her to reflect in her old age that “these are not the golden years, these are the rusty years. The golden years come hereafter.”Barbara is survived by her husband of 60 years, John S. Deliyannides of South Bend, IN; five children, Rebecca Boes of Pittsburgh, PA, John S. Deliyannides, Jr. (and Daniel Galeza) of Pittsburgh, PA, Deborah A. Deliyannides of Darien, CT, Timothy S. Deliyannides of Pittsburgh, PA, and Andrew B. Deliyannides (and Ninette Deliyannides) of South Bend, IN; seven grandchildren, Jonathan, Briar, Anastasia, Daniel, Immanuel, Zoe and Olivia; a brother, Eugene D. Farace of Salisbury, MD; and seven nieces and nephews in the US, Greece, and Germany.
