Mary J. Sloboda, 96, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 3:10 a.m., Wednesday, May 14, 2008, in Memorial Hospital. Mary was born on June 11, 1911 in Mishawaka, IN to Alfons and Elda (VanDerPlaetse) Bernard. She retired in 1970 from the Oliver Hotel in South Bend, where she was employed as a hostess for fifteen years. On April 21, 1934, she married Sentiel ?Bill? DePaepe. He passed away on March 15, 1958. On December 23, 1958, she married Andrew Sloboda. He passed away on December 8, 1983. Survivors include her son, Duane (Marie) DePaepe of Sedona, AZ; two grandchildren, Tchell Ann DePaepe of San Francisco, CA and Dr. Jessica DePaepe-Schubert of Seattle, WA; and by one great-grandson, Chase Schubert. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2008 in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive. Entombment will follow in Highland Cemetery. Friends may call for one hour prior services in the funeral home. Mary loved to do needlepoint.
