Darcey Ames Fields was a 1950 New Year's baby born to Chester and Marion Fields. After graduating from Jackson High School his misspent youth was cut short when he married Rita Gapinski, the love of his life of 53 years! After serving four years in the Air Force he spent 12 years wearing a suit for IBM in Chicago and South Bend. At the age of 36 he had a mid-life crisis and bought the campground, Beaver Ridge Family Camping and spent the next 30 years pulling hayrides and overconfident campers out of the mud. Retiring from BRFC in 2015, he figured that turnabout is fair play and bought a small motorhome and made several "eventful" camping trips around the states with his wife and grandchildren.Darcey's dad, Chester Fields, mother Marion Bartuska, sister Kris Boines and brother Chester Earl were there to greet him in heaven! His son, Jamie and his wife Kathy gave Darcey the joy of his life, two granddaughters, Alyson Fields and Sydney Fields. Darcey will have a private burial at Ft. Custer National Cemetery with Military Honors. Darcey’s family will greet friends from 4-6pm on Friday, January 13, 2023, in Palmer Funeral Home - Bubb Chapel, 3910 N. Main St., Mishawaka IN 46545.
