SOUTH BEND - Michael L. Gorbitz, 93, of Westminster, California, died on Feb. 18, 2013, after an extended illness. Michael was born to Michael and Lena (Giczi) Gorbitz, who have preceded him in death. His wife, Beverly (Shafer) Gorbitz, also preceded him in death. Michael leaves behind two daughters, Theresa Vila and Kathy Chapman, both of California; and five grandchildren, Trina, Crystal and Jasmin Vila, and Ryan and Adam Chapman; and a brother, Stephen (Anne) Gorbitz of South Bend, IN. Mike attended South Bend Central High School and the University of Notre Dame, and worked at Bendix Home Appliance in South Bend before being recruited by North American Aircraft in California during World War II.
