Stanley L. Machowiak Sr.

Stanley Leo Machowiak Sr., 88, of South Bend, passed away at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, December 3, 2006, in Memorial Hospital, South Bend.Stanley was born May 27, 1918, to Leon and Marianna (Nowak) Machowiak, and was raised by Walter and Helen Dzikowski. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Mary Ann Machowiak, Helen Machowiak and Mary Winkowski; and three brothers, Zigmond Machowiak, Casimir and Bert Dzikowski; as well as Walter and Helen Dzikowski. On February 14, 1942, he married Alice Stefaniak in South Bend. She survives along with their children, Stanley (Jean) Machowiak Jr., Patricia (Richard) Rozmarynowski and Bob Machowiak, all of South Bend; three grandchildren, Deborah (Roger) Balderas of South Bend, Julie Rozmarynowski of Tampa, FL, and Bryan (Cindy) Rozmarynowski of South Bend; five great-grandchildren, Jason, Kyle and Brandon Markovich of South Bend, Sebbie Balderas of South Bend and Aleena Ruscella of Tampa, FL; three step-great-grandsons, Andy (Lisa), Alex and Aaron Balderas; and two step-great-great-grandchildren. He served in the United States Army during World War II, and was part of the invasion in Normandy with General Patton. While serving he received four Bronze Stars. In 1980 he retired from ISP Paper Company after 27 years. He was a member of Teamsters 364, American Legion 284, VFW 9820, St. Casimir Senior Citizens Club and St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.
Visitation was from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, December 6, 2006, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, South Bend, where a Rosary was prayed at 4 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated today, December 7, at 11 a.m. in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 2616 St. John Way, South Bend, IN 46628.
