On Nov. 29, 1916, Rev. M. Miklaszewski, Asst. Pastor at St. Hedwig Catholic Church in South Bend, Indiana, married Maryanna Chrobot and Czeslaw Ruszkowski. The marriage applications they filed with the county include the following: Maryanna, a resident of South Bend, was born Sep. 10, 1894 in South Bend, Indiana, to Joseph and Prakseda (Jaroszewski) Chrobot. Czeslaw (aka Chester), a switchman, residing in South Bend, was born July 15, 1896 in South Bend to Antoni & Katarzyna (Janiszewski) Ruszkowski. It was the first marriage for both of them.
Note: The application correctly indicates that his mother was deceased, but incorrectly gives the name of his step-mother as his mother who was not deceased. His mother's name was Marcyanna (Grzezinski) Ruszkowski who died in 1902. The 1920 census of South Bend lists Chester and "Mamie" Ruszkowski, and their 7-month-old son, Chester Jr., living with her parents, Joseph & Sadie Chrobot. Maryanna died in 1921. Her date and place of death are given in her Indiana death certificate for which her husband, Chester Ruszkowski, was the informant. It was his understanding that she had been born Sep. 10, 1893 in South Bend to Joseph & ___ (Jaroszewski) Chrobot. Her death and interment also are in the records of St. Hedwig Catholic Church in South Bend. Chester H. Ruszkowski remarried in 1924. At the time of the 1930 census, Chester Jr. was living with his Chrobot grandparents.
