Lena J. Berebitsky

SOUTH BEND - Lena J. Berebitsky, 83, passed away peacefully on October 2nd after a brief illness. She was born July 2, 1927, in Indianapolis, to Jacob and Rebecca (Camhi) Calderon. She married Harold (Teener) Berebitsky on March 28, 1948, in Indianapolis, and had lived in South Bend since then. For many years she coordinated activity for the Friendship Club of the Jewish Federation of St. Joseph Valley, and was honored with a lunch upon her retirement. She was also a volunteer at St. Joseph Hospital. She was a member of Sinai Synagogue and the Jewish Federation. Lena enjoyed traveling and attending live theater with her husband. She also enjoyed bowling, mahjong, reading, and hosting barbecues and other family gatherings at their homes. She is survived by her husband, Harold of 62 years; sons, Paul (Ann), Roger (Mara), Larry and Jerry (Diksha); brothers, Hymie (Wanda) and Dave (Arlene). She is also survived by six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Lena was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Annie. Memorial contributions may be made to either the Sinai Synagogue or to the Jewish Federation. Services will be conducted on Monday, October 4th, in the Chapel at Hebrew Orthodox Cemetery, Jefferson and Logan, Mishawaka, beginning at 2:30 p.m. Condolences to the family may be left at www.McGannHay.com.
