Mason William Boyd
March 8, 1946 - December 8, 2022
Mason William Boyd, 76, of Dexter, Iowa, passed away at 12:15 pm, Thursday December 8, 2022 at Community Care Center in Stuart, Iowa. He was born March 8, 1946 in La Porte, Indiana, the son of George Homer Boyd and Marjorie Janet (LeResche) Boyd. Mason was a 1964 graduate of La Porte High School in La Porte, Indiana. He was a member of the Slicer football team and golf team. In April of 1966, Mason enlisted in the United States Air Force. He was stationed at Grissom Air Force Base which was a Strategic Air Command Base. He was honorably discharged on December 3, 1969. He retained a lifelong interest in military history. After his military service he obtained his BA degree in Political Science from Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. For most of his working career he was an Insurance Adjuster. He retired from Cincinnati Insurance Company in July of 2011. Mason developed a lifelong love of golf. He played many golf courses during his life but his favorite remained Beechwood in La Porte. He belonged to Morris Park Country Club in South Bend, Indiana and Urbandale Golf and Country Club in Urbandale, Iowa. In addition, he enjoyed watching both college and professional football. The Chicago Bears and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish were his favorite teams. He attended several Notre Dame games in person while he was a resident of the South Bend, Indiana area. Mason had a quirky sense of humor and his family treasures many unique “Mason” quotes throughout the years. He loved chocolate (especially M & Ms), learning information through the art of questioning, and animals. He enjoyed many family pets with the newest being a Scottish terrier named Clyde. He is survived by his wife of 41 years Janet Alane (Bidwell) Boyd and three sons, Mason Thomas (Jennifer) Boyd of Davenport, Iowa, Charles Taylor (Jessica) Boyd of Des Moines, Iowa, and Derek Leon Boyd of Martinez, California. Two grandchildren, Eva Alaine Boyd and Rhett Thomas Boyd of Davenport. His brother Tom (Marilyn) Boyd of La Porte. He had many nieces and nephews. Services will be held at Johnson Funeral Home in Stuart, Iowa on December 17th 2022 at 11am. There will be a visitation period at 10 am preceding the service. Graveside service tribute will be at 12:30 pm on December 22nd at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa. Memorial contributions can be made to the Iowa Veterans Cemetery or Bidwell Riverside Center.
