Mrs. Patricia (May) Coppins, 90, passed away at home in South Bend during the evening of Friday, December 3, 2021. Patricia was born on January 3, 1931 in London, England to Walter and Josephine May. It was in London, England in 1954, where she met and married the love of her life, John Coppins, who she often referred to as “my Johnnie.” Pat and John immigrated to the United States in December of 1962, settling in South Bend, Indiana. Patricia loved caring for people and spent most of her life doing that. Among her most cherished memories were during her employment at South Bend Osteopathic Hospital where she spent 14 years of faithful service. She was a lifelong faithful Catholic and attended Holy Cross Church in South Bend. She loved spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren.
Patricia was a devoted and loving wife, daughter, mother, sister, grandmother and friend. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. In addition to her husband of 67 years, John Coppins, Patricia is survived by two children; Brett (wife-Crystal) Coppins of South Bend and Hayley Coppins of South Bend; a sister, Shirley (husband-Marvin) Abraham of South Bend; 10 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Josephine and Walter May, Patricia was preceded in death by two sons, Jonathon Coppins (who passed in 1988) and Michael (who passed in 2014). Palmer Funeral Homes - River Park is assisting the family with arrangements. Friends may gather with the family from 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at Palmer Funeral Home - River Park Chapel, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend, IN 46615. A rosary service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Services for Patricia will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, December 16, 2021 at Holy Cross Church, 1050 Wilber St. South Bend, IN 46628.
