SOUTH BEND - Arthur M. Bella, 86, passed away at 10:07 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15, 2009 in his house, with his loving family at his side. Arthur was born on April 18, 1923, in South Bend to the late John Sr. and Veronica (Torma) Bella. On January 12, 1946 in South Bend, Arthur married Florence B. (Wiskotoni) and she passed away on October 18, 2006. He was also preceded in death by brothers, John Jr., Steven, Julius and Joseph; and by his sister, Veronica Herczeg. Arthur is survived by his children, Christine Bella of South Bend, Marie (Joseph) Briggs of Buchanan, MI, Michael (Fern) Bella of Granger and Daniel Bella of South Bend; daughter-in-law, Karla Bella; eight grandchildren, Jacob, Rachel and Jeremiah Briggs, Alyssa and Troy Bella, Richard and Ron Olson, and Michael Bella; five great-grandchildren; and sister, Regina Hafron. Arthur was a Staff Sergeant for the United States Army COB 131 Combat Engineers. He worked at Oliver Corporation, RACO, Cloud Brothers and Studebaker. Later he sold Whiskey for 35 years at LaSalle Liquor/Olinger Company. He retired in 2002. Arthur was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Moose 980, American Legion Post 297 and Crumstown Conservation Club. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States for Post 1130. Arthur was a care giver for his wife for thirteen years. He was the supervisor of the Notre Dame Football Stadium for fifty-two years for (section 19-24). Arthur loved to be with his family and grandchildren. He was very proud to serve his country. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church, Building Fund, 56405 Mayflower Road, South Bend, IN 46619. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 19, 2009 in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a Rosary will be prayed at 4:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 20, 2009 in Holy Family Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. Visitation will also be from 9 to 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home prior to the Mass on Monday morning.
