April 9, 1947 - Feb. 10, 2014
SOUTH BEND - James W. Katovsich, 66, of South Bend, passed away on Monday, February 10th, at Miller's Merry Manor in New Carlisle after an extended illness with his loving family by his side. James was born on April 9, 1947, in South Bend, to the late Thomas L. and Anna M. (Crnkovic) Katovsich. He was a lifetime resident of the Michiana area and worked for Raco Corp. as a Maintenance Mechanic. On February 14, 1970, in South Bend, he married the former Marilyn J. Pinter, who survives. James is also survived by one daughter, Cynthia L. (Ken) (Katovsich) Karczewski of Lee's Summit, MO; one son, Michael J. Katovsich of South Bend; one sister, Mary Ann (Katovsich) Horn of New Bern, NC; three brothers, Thomas M. (Elaine) Katovsich of Cassopolis, MI, Darrell J. (Patty) Katovsich of Woodstock, VA, and Dennis F. Katovsich of New Port Beach, CA. Also several nieces and nephews survive. The family would like to thank all the Staff at Miller's Merry Manor, New Carlisle, for the wonderful care and support they gave to James. James proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict. James used to race stock cars at the South Bend Motor Speedway with the original J&K racing team, Jim, Joey, Darrell, Mr. J, the Jackson Family, Jim Womack and all the fans. He also enjoyed antique cars. James had a special Scottie dog named Molly and he always said to her "You're my buddy." James was a diabetic and Molly could always sense when his blood sugar was getting low; she would then go and find his wife to let her know. Molly was never wrong and was very special to James for many reasons. There will be no services or visitation. James's wishes were to be cremated and his family has honored his wishes. The family requests all memorial contributions be made to The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637. The HANLEY & Sons "Southwest Chapel" Funeral Home and Cremation Services handled arrangements and extends its deepest sympathy and heartfelt prayers to the Katovsich family.
