MISHAWAKA, IN - Hedi (Hedwig) Bischl McCoy, 84, of Mishawaka, Indiana, passed away on Friday, September 7, 2018 in Davidson, North Carolina after battling cancer. She was born on September 3, 1934 in Waltrowitz, Czechoslovakia to the late Rudolf and Anna Obermann Bischl. The youngest child of four children and twin sister of brother, Rudi Bischl, she was raised and lived in Heidelberg, Germany. Married in 1958 to the late Maurice James McCoy, she immigrated to the United States, first arriving in Indianapolis, Indiana. Hedi became a U.S. citizen in 1964, moved to South Bend, Indiana in 1966, and finally settled in Mishawaka, Indiana with her family in 1971. A homemaker and career woman, Hedi worked for Associates (South Bend) as a key punch operator and continued in that line of work at Wheelabrator-Frye (Mishawaka) until its closure, and ultimately retired from Hudson's Department Store in Mishawaka. She was a member of St. Bavo's Catholic Church congregation, Elkhart Moose Lodge #599 for 30 years, and a member of the German Club of South Bend for 29 years, where she served as Vice-President and President for 2 years in each role -- she always had a lot of fun with the club. Hedi also enjoyed gardening, “Ever-Learning” and Ballroom dancing. A passionate “animal lover”, she was an ardent supporter of the Humane Society of St Joseph County. She is survived by her son, Jack (Kathy) McCoy; daughter, Jenny (Gregg) Hinsey; granddaughter, Amber (Chris) Weed; great-grandchildren, Eleanor, Bennett, Maverick, and Johnny Weed; and niece, Liselotte (Hartwig) Louis.
