Gladys M. Dewald

Mishawaka-Gladys M. Dewald, 100, passed away on Thursday, February 27 in Hospice House South Bend.
Gladys was born on February 2, 1914 in South Bend to Henry and Clara (Bergeon) Deal. She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Larry (Kathleen) Deal, Agnes Swartz, Bernice Allen, Russell Deal; a son, Ronald Kinch and her stepchildren, Ruthmary Hammond and James Dewald.
On July 31, 1937 she married Eugene Kinch who passed away on May 11, 1944. Then on May 10, 1947 she married George Dewald; he passed away on October 7, 1998. Surviving are her children and stepchildren, Christine (Keith) Erickson of Bremen, IN, Becky (Joseph) Balog of Arvada, CO, Charles (Diane) Dewald of Elkhart and Thomas (Linda) Dewald of Sarasota, FL; sister, Patricia Pierpont of Mishawaka and daughters-in-law, Elaine Kinch and Mary Ann Dewald both of Mishawaka. Also surviving are 25 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren and 21 great greatgrandchildren.
Gladys worked for Newman's as a Manager of Women's Wear. She was a member of St. Bavo Catholic Church, Mishawaka and was a former member of St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary. Visitation will be on Monday, March 3 from 4 to 7 p.m. with Wake Prayers at 6:30 p.m., in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 4 in St. Bavo Catholic Church with Rev. Barry England officiating. Entombment will follow in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Diabetes Association of St. Joseph County, United Health Services, 6910 S. Main Street Granger, IN 46530 or St. Bavo Catholic Church, 511 W. 7th Street, Mishawaka, IN 46544 or to Hospice Foundation, Supporting Center for Hospice Care; South Bend Elkhart Plymouth, 501 Comfort Place, Mishawaka, IN 46545.
