Louis Baldoni

SOUTH BEND - South Bend - Louis Baldoni, 94, formerly of Mishawaka, passed away at home on Saturday, January 7, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. Louie was born on April 28, 1922 in Mishawaka to Biagio and Pia (Farabegoli) Baldoni. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Libero (Lab) Baldoni and many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and cousins from both his and his wife's families. On October 11, 1947, he married the former Elsie Kopsea in St. Michael Ukrainian Catholic Church in Mishawaka. Louie is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Elsie; his children, Gregory Baldoni of Mishawaka, Pia Baldoni of Mishawaka and Rulan (Jay) Asdell of South Bend; and two grandchildren, Patrick Asdell and Elizabeth Asdell. Louie graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1942. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served under General George Patton in the Third Army during WWII, during which he received a Purple Heart. He was a Mishawaka Fireman for 20 years. After he retired from the Fire Department, he and his wife owned and operated Louie's Tavern for 10 years. Louie was a lifetime area resident and an active member of the Mishawaka community. He was a member of De Amici's Club, where he was an officer and board member. He organized the South Side Old Timers Reunion for many years. He was also a member of VFW Post 360, FOE, Indiana Firefighters Association, Indiana Tavern Owners Association, MHS Alumni and St. Michael Ukrainian Catholic Church in Mishawaka. Louie enjoyed spending time with his family and friends - dancing with his wife, singing with his friends, telling stories, laughing and enjoying his wonderful life. The family would like to thank the many people who were involved in Dad's care - Diana Newport; Bonnie Buechler and Senior 1 Care; Saundra Dishman and Always Best Care; and Diana Laidlaw and Heartland Hospice. Visitation will be on Friday, January 13, 2017 from 4 PM to 8 PM with a Rosary at 4:30 PM, in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. Funeral services will be on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 10:00 AM in St. Michael Ukrainian Catholic Church, 712 E. Lawrence, Mishawaka. Entombment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Mishawaka where Military Rites will be conducted by the VFW Post 360/American Legion Post 161 burial team. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hoosier Burn Camp, P.O. Box 233 Battle Ground, IN 47920; Miller's Vets, 813 S.
