Oct. 13, 1945 - 9/13/2022
Wilma Inez Gygi, 76, of Elkhart passed away surrounded by her family on Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2022. Wilma was born in Double Springs, Alabama, to Oma and Howard Overton on Oct. 13, 1945. Although her first name was Wilma, everyone called her Inez. She graduated from Elkhart High School in 1964. On Aug. 26, 1967, she married her high school sweetheart, Ronnie Gygi, and moved with him to Sault Saint Marie, Michigan, where he was stationed at Kincheloe Air Force base until 1968. In 1968, Inez and Ronnie moved to Tacoma Park, Maryland, where they both worked for Vitro Labs. In 1973 She moved back to Elkhart permanently with Ronnie and her children, where they made a home on Osolo Road just down the road from Ronnie's mother. Inez enjoyed being a mother and a homemaker, raising her three children with great love and a healthy sprinkling of baked goods and homecooked meals. She enjoyed sewing clothes for her children and reading books. She loved canning soups and jams from the fruits and vegetables Ronnie grew in his garden. Inez had a large family and loved spending time with her sisters and brothers and all of their children. Inez was greatly loved by her family. She was the giver of advice and counseled her children when they needed direction. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, daughter, and friend to countless people. She was the center of all activities and the glue that held our family together. She will be forever missed. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronnie Gygi (2020), her parents, Howard Overton (1979) and Oma Overton (2012), her son, Carl Gygi (2018), and her siblings Garfield, Burt, Odean and Hassen Overton. She is survived by her daughter Kathy Cora (Carl), her son Troy Gygi (Tiffany), her grandchildren Allyson Luczkowski (Paul), Zachary Cora, Gus Gygi, and a great-grandson, Logan Luczkowski.Memorial contributions may be given to the Ribbon of Hope.
