Eugene L. “Sonny” Dutoi, age 89, of Bremen, passed away unexpectedly at 3:42 p.m., Thursday, October 13, 2022 at South Bend Memorial Hospital, where he had been a patient since Sunday. He was born May 3, 1933 in Bremen to Leon and Vera (Ritchey) Dutoi. Eugene was a Bremen High School graduate and an Army Veteran of the Korean War. On December 27, 1992 he married Kathryn Bandy in Bremen. He had worked for Nipsco as a Heavy Equipment Operator. Eugene attended Nappanee Missionary Church and was part of the Servant’s Heart Small Church. He was a member of the VFW-Bremen and the Nappanee American Legion. Eugene was a big IU basketball fan, he loved spending time with family and loved getting his lottery tickets weekly and reading the Newspaper everyday. He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Dutoi, Bremen; children, Kathy Lynch, Angola, Leslie (Zacc) Hutchings, Plymouth; 9 grandchildren, Justenn Lynch, James (Stefanie) Lynch, Reighanna Lynch, Trevor (Nacona) Lynch, Alysia (Nelson) Hatheway, Zacc Hutchings, Annastasia Hutchings, Noelle Hutchings, Britney Kieselhorst; 3 great-grandchildren, Cortland Lynch, Kylee Lynch, Mason Wiseman and expecting one in April; siblings, Don (Sheila Hardy) Dutoi, Bremen, Mary Lou Stine, Goshen, and Helen Balsely, Bremen. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Bryan Lynch; step son, Randy Gow; and a sister, Janice Dutoi. Family and friends may call from 3-8 p.m., Monday, October 17, 2022 at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee and one hour prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service Tuesday, October 18th at Nappanee Missionary Church. Pastor Jason Rohde will officiate. Burial will follow in Bremen Cemetery with Military Graveside by the Bremen VFW. Memorial contributions may be given to Nappanee Missionary Church, St. Jude Hospital for Children, or American Cancer Society.
