Elizabeth A. (Varga) Shupe, 83, of Elm Road, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away on Wednesday, May 29, in Saint Joseph Community Hospital, Mishawaka. Elizabeth was born on Jan. 2, 1919, in South Bend, Ind., as the daughter of the late George and Ella (Mezzie) Varga.On April 18, 1941, in South Bend, as the former Elizabeth Varga, she married George Shupe, who also preceded her in death on Dec. 7, 1977. Elizabeth is survived by a daughter, Jean Hall of Carmel, Ind.; a son, George Shupe of Mishawaka; and by two grandchildren, Christopher Hall of Boulder, Colo., and Ryan Hall of Carmel. Elizabeth was a lifelong area resident. She worked as a cook for Memorial Hospital in South Bend for 17 years before retiring in 1983. She was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Mishawaka, the AARP, and was a former member of Our Lady of Hungary. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. where a Rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m. today, May 31, in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 1, in Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Mishawaka, with Rev. Elden Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery, South Bend. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made in memory of Elizabeth to the American Heart Association, Memorial & Tributes Program Dept. 77-3968, Chicago, IL 60678-3968; or to the American Lung Association, 319 South Main Street, South Bend, IN 46601.
