In 1884, in Klecko, Poland, Michael Popiol alias Popielski, born 1862 to Johann & Hedwig Jaskola Popiol, married Rosalie Kujawski, born 1859 to Stanislaus & Marie Malczewski Kujawski. (Poznan Marriage Indexing Project) According to the 1900 census of South Bend, Indiana, Michael and Rose Popielski, both born in Poland, had immigrated with two of their children in the mid-1890s. Rose was listed as having had nine children of whom five were living. The five children were living at home in 1900 (in birth order): Lawrence [Albert], Andrew, Peter, Joseph, and Casimier. By the time of the 1910 census, Rose was listed as having had thirteen children, of whom ten were living. Since 1900, John, Mary, and Roman had been born.
South Bend News-Times, Sat., May 2, 1914, p. 12:
"Mrs. Rose Popielska, wife of Michael Popielski, 2428 W. Monroe st., died Friday afternoon following an illness of several days from a complication of diseases. She was born in Poland, Sept. 4, 1859. She was married to Michael Popielski in Europe on Feb. 21, 1884, and came here 22 years ago. Mrs. Popielska is survived by her husband and eight children. They are Adelbert [Albert], Andrew, Peter, Joseph, Casimier, John, Mary, and Roman. "The funeral will be held Monday morning from St. Adelbert's Catholic church. Burial will be made in Cedar Grove cemetery." According to the 1920 census record of South Bend, siblings Albert, Andrew, Joseph, Cashmere, Roman, and Marie Popielski were living together.
