SOUTH BEND - Betty Jane (Fisher) Schoen, 78, a lifelong resident of South Bend, passed away at 5:45 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009, at Southfield Village. She was born April 5, 1931, in South Bend, the only child of Russell and Irene (Vida) Fisher. She graduated from John Adams High School. On September 22, 1951, in St. Monica's Catholic Church, Mishawaka, she was united in marriage to Ervin J. Schoen. On Tuesday they would have celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary. She is survived by her loving husband, Ervin, along with three sons, Danny L. Schoen, Kenny A. Schoen and Greg Schoen and his wife, Mary, all of South Bend. Also surviving are seven grandchildren, David (Lisa) Schoen of South Bend, Tiffany Schoen of Chicago, IL, Adam Schoen of South Carolina, Christopher Schoen, Matthew Schoen, Jason (Nicole) Catanzarite, all of South Bend, and Jacob Catanzarite. Mrs. Schoen was employed for 20 years with E.H. Tepe's, and retired in 2000 from Master Distributors. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, and in more recent years was attending St. Stanislaus Church. Her youngest grandson always said: "She cooks just like Betty Crocket!" A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22nd, in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at Highland Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. today in the Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend, where a parish Rosary will be at 4:30 p.m. today.
