Celestine (Celeste) R. Hoffman, 99 years old, passed away Sunday, July 10, 2022 in South Bend. Celeste was born June 24, 1923 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Anthony and Marie (Schmidt) Rossetti. Prior to moving to South Bend in 1953, Celeste married William Hoffman in Chicago, who preceded her in death in 1988. Along with her loving husband and parents, Celeste was preceded in death by her great-grandson, Michael; brothers, Vincent, Anthony, Arthur, Philip, and Leo Rossetti; and sisters, Dina & Jennie Rossetti. Left to cherish the memory of Celeste are her children, Sharon (Brent) Myers, Larry (Sharon) Hoffman, Susan Hoffman, Karen (Joel) Finch, Virginia (Jeff) Kohler, Alan (Lori) Hoffman; grandchildren, Brad (Nikki) Myers, Eric (Lisa) Myers, Rhonda Fiwek, Lisa Parnell, Christie (Steve) Salcedo, Cassie Young, Evan Finch, Drew (Dani) Finch, Shane (Cali) Kohler, Jordan (Alyssa) Kohler, Ryan (Leanna) Kohler, Alex (Kaylee) Kohler, Jocelyn (Josh) Stoner, Will (Briana) Hoffman, and Michael (Alyssa) Hoffman; and 20 great-grandchildren, with one on the way. Celeste was a beautiful person who had many titles in her life. She was a daughter, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, daughter-in-law, aunt, and friend. Celeste honorably served her country in the United States Navy during WWII. She was the treasurer of the Tidal W.A.V.E. in South Bend. She was also a Den Mother, Campfire Leader, Piano teacher, and a member of the Harvest House. She was a great seamstress, and enjoyed gardening, knitting, crocheting, and bingo. Celeste learned the piano at the age of 11 and has been playing ever since. Her tenacity was displayed with one of her greatest accomplishments being learning how to drive at the age of 51. She was a beautiful woman who will be greatly missed. Visitation for Celeste will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Friday, July 15, 2022 and again from 9:30am - 10:30am Saturday, July 16, 2022 at St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Rd. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 am Saturday at Holy Family Catholic Church. Burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. In lieu of flowers, donations in honor of Celestine (Celeste) R. Hoffman may be made out to Dunes Hospice, 4711 Evans Ave, Valparaiso, IN 46383, or Holy Family Catholic Church, 56405 Mayflower Rd., South Bend, IN 46619.
