SVEND O. SEKSE (ULLENSVANG, HARDANGER)

Svend O. Sekse was born in Norway on December 3, 1855, the son of Ole and Ingeborg Sekse.
He was baptized and confirmed in the Ullensvang Parish, Hardanger, Norway. He immigrated to America in August 1883 and settled in Ettrick where he resided until his death. On June 21, 1885 he was married to Karine Knutson (marriage Record show Karine Anderson-Flaaten) who preceded him in death in 1913. To this union eight children were born. He is survived by a son, 1. Andrew Olai Sekse 1894 (Note: Andrew also names a son Sanford O (1924-1966) and four daughters:
2. Ella, Mrs. William Crivits, Ettrick;
3. Anna, Mrs. Dan Myrland;
4. Helen, Mrs. Nels Gabriel; (1902) and
5. Mrs. Cora Selmina Trones-Barnes (1903-1991), all of Blair.
He was preceded in death by three children,
6. Helmer,
7. Helen (1887) and
8. Sanford John Sekse died in WWI
Age 22, Ettrick; pvt hq SATC, Kansas City; dd (pneu) Oct 5, ’18.
A brother, Lars Olson Sexe died in 1941 and a sister, Mrs. Lewis P. (Ragnhild) Herreid in 1944. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Mr. Sekse was taken ill about three weeks ago and passed away on Monday, March 24, 1947 at the age of 91 years, 3 months and 21 days. He was a member of the Beaver Creek congregation for about 64 years. Funeral services were held on Thursday, March 27 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. William Crivits and at the Beaver Creek church with the Rev. Luther S. Borgen officiating. Mrs. Lloyd Quammen and Mrs. Sena Brovold sang two songs at the church, “Face to Face with Christ Our Saviour” and Beautiful Isle of Somewhere.” Pallbearers were six grandsons, Goethal, Willard and Stuart Crivits, Sanford Sekse, Maynard Thompson and Sanford Myrland. Money wreaths totaled $48.50. Interment was in the Beaver Creek cemetery. THE BLAIR PRESS - APRIL 3, 1947
