[N11377] Robert Jacob Guros
July 5, 1938 - July 9, 2014

NEW CARLISLE - Robert J. Guros passed away July 9 at his home, surrounded by his beloved family. Bob had been diagnosed with Stage IV lung cancer Oct. 16 and though he and his family were shocked by the short time that remained, they treasured the time which was afforded to them. He was taken way too soon. Bob had been a resident of New Carlisle, IN, for 17 years, having retired here from Pompton Plains, NJ. After his retirement, Bob was ecstatic to commence on his "Chapter Two" of his life, returning to Indiana to build his dream home on Hudson Lake and to launch a new venture with his son, Michael. Most important to him was to be near his daughter, Lori Guros Kuiphoff, and her husband, Steve, and their cherished daughters, Jessica Lauren, Amanda June and Megan Elizabeth. Shortly after, Cassidy Nicole was born to Michael and Michele Guros. The joy of Bob's life was to bring happiness to these little girls and no grandfather was as devoted as was Bob. Too many trips to Orlando and Disneyworld to count, trips to Wisconsin Dells, Cedar Point, Six Flags, American Girl store in Chicago and many many in the RV to local camp grounds. These family times brought him, and all of them, immeasurable happiness and treasured memories. Bob was born July 5, 1938, to Jacob and Viola Guros in Hammond, IN. He graduated from Bishop Noll High School. He married Helen Marie Dymora October 4, 1958, and the two of them shared a 56-year marriage. Bob began his career at Lever Brothers in Whiting, IN, working as a pipefitter in the factory. He was soon promoted and the family moved to St. Louis, MO, in 1969. Shortly after, Bob took advantage of the generous opportunity that Lever Brothers offered, and though he was married with two small children and working a full-time job, Bob endeavored to graduate from Washington University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1971. Another promotion soon moved the family to Pompton Plains, NJ, where Bob was working on Park Avenue in New York City in the infamous "Glass Building". Still, always striving for advancement in his career, he received his Master's Degree from Columbia University in 1982. Bob is additionally mourned by his sister, Bernadette Guros Bailey (Bob) of Hebron, IN, Dr. Joseph Guros (Sally) of Fort Atkinson, WI; niece, Dr. Carrie Narkis (Todd) of Watertown, WI; nephew, Josh Guros of Milwaukee, WI. In addition, his uncle, Albin Guros (Anna), Lamont, IL. Also, extended family, William and Mary Ann Companik, New Carlisle, Jerome and Charlotte Dymora, Anaheim, CA, Danuta Lenckos, Chicago, IL, Dolly Evanoff, who preceded Bob in death. Also, countless cousins, nieces and nephews who will miss Uncle Bob's warmth, hospitality and humor. A celebration of Bob's life will be Sunday, July 20, at Portofino's Grill, 3233 N SR 39 in Laporte, with an open house between 3:30 and 7:00 (CST). Published in South Bend Tribune on July 16, 2014
