SOUTH BEND - Francis G. Szalay Sr., 80, of South Bend, IN passed away at 4:21 a.m. Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at Kindred Hospital Northern Indiana. Francis was born on February 12, 1936 in South Bend to Joseph and Margaret (Kettel) Szalay. In 1957, he married Sandra Hosler, who preceded him in death. Francis is survived by his children, Francis Szalay Jr., of South Bend, William Szalay of South Bend and Michele Roberts of Elkhart, IN; five grandchildren: Jeffrey, Amber, and William Szalay, and Brandon and Aaron Roberts; and his siblings, Irene Johnson of Lagrange, IN, Joseph Szalay, Therese Davis and Thomas Szalay, all of South Bend and Michael Szalay of LaPaz, IN. Francis was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Sheila Szalay, a brother, Patrick Szalay and a sister, Shirley Hartz. A memorial service will be held at 6:00pm on Tuesday, April 12th, 2016 at the Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main Street, Mishawaka with visitation being held two hours prior to the memorial service.
