Norman Michael Matuszak
August 30, 1941 - July 13, 2017
South Bend - Norman Michael Matuszak, 75, passed away peacefully Thursday, July 13, 2017 while in the compassionate care of the South Bend Hospice House surrounded by his loving family. Norm was born August 30, 1941 in South Bend, to the late Aloysius and Clementine (Tomaszewski) Matuszak. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Richard Matuszak.Survivors of Norm include his children, Kevin (Kathie) Matuszak, and Beth (Steven) Staszewski; grandchildren, Emily and Bradley Matuszak, Lindsey and Paige Staszewski; friend & companion of 29 years, Nancy McCartney; and the mother of his children, Barbara (Kasznia) Matuszak. Norm proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1959-1962. He worked for Studebaker, Drewrys from 1962 - 1972, then Dallas & Mavis from 1972 until retiring. He was an original board member and Vice President of Sylvester and Tessie Kaminski Foundation and a member of M.R. Falcons Nest 4. He ushered for Holy Family Catholic Church and Notre Dame Football games. Norm was an avid reader, Notre Dame Fan, and enjoyed bowling. He played the saxophone and clarinet in the George Kurdys Band. Good pizza and beer were his favorite treats. Norm preferred being outdoors; he enjoyed taking scenic drives with Nancy and relaxing on his back porch. Family Sunday dinners and vacations to the lake were extremely important and brought him much happiness. The grandchildren will always cherish the memories of Christmas in his basement and playing Jenga. Norm was admired for the incredible strength he displayed through his 30 year battle with cancer. He touched many lives and will forever be in our hearts. Visitation for Norm will be 3:00pm to 7:00pm Sunday, July 16, 2017 in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd. A Rosary will be prayed at 5:00pm with the Polish Falcons Legion of Honor Ceremony to follow. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am, Monday July 17, 2017 in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice, 230 N. Catalpa Dr., Mishawaka, IN 46545 or The Sylvester and Tessie Kaminski Foundation in care of any 1st Source Bank location.
