Myron Joseph Busby
August 16, 1941 - February 7, 2023
Myron Joseph Busby, Jr., 81, of South Bend, died on February 7, 2023 after a short illness. He was born August 16, 1941 in Terre Haute, Indiana, to Cecilia O'Connell Busby and Myron Busby, Sr. Raised in Terre Haute, he graduated from Schulte High School, class of 1959 and the University of Notre Dame, class of 1963. He served in the Army Reserves from 1965 to 1971. In 1967 he married Pauline Gattie. After a few years in Terre Haute, where he worked in admissions for Indiana State University and St. Mary of the Woods College, they moved to South Bend in 1970 where Myron was assistant director of admissions at Notre Dame. Subsequent work included Inter-Collegiate Press, his own rental property business, and Busby's (née Buysse's) Tavern on Lincoln Way West. Always ready to help the needy, Myron volunteered with Meals on Wheels, the Military Honor Park, St. Joseph County Board of Elections, the Military Funeral Honors program, and REAL Services' advocacy program. And he never met a stray dog he didn't want to take home. He is survived by Pauline and their children, Christine, Brian, and Paul, as well as three grandchildren. The family extends gratitude to the staff of Walnut Grove, Memorial Hospital, Sanctuary at Holy Cross, Twelfth Street Care Center, and Heart to Heart Hospice for their care and to Rev. Paul Doyle, C.S.C. for his decades of friendship, guidance, and support. In keeping with Myron's wishes, cremation has occurred, and private services will be held. If desired, memorial donations can be made to the Humane Society of St. Joseph County or to REAL Services.
