INDEX

[N10250] I must say that I always have trouble with the Lodyga's:) My great-great grandfather was Jan Lodyga. According to his death certificate he was born June 26, 1860 and died May 20, 1921. His second marriage was to Marianna Matuszak. The kids I know of are Ignatius (my great grandfather, son of 2nd wife 2/1/1899), Leo (son of 2nd wife 2/19/06), Adam (son of 1st wife 2/1889), Constance (daughter of 2nd wife-DOB?), Eva (daughter of 1st wife 1891), Anna (1895-not sure if 1st or 2nd wife), Stanislawa (daughter of 2nd wife-Nov 1897). This is all from a 1900's census (except constance who was born later). Ok so where does the Indiana tie come in? This census list John's date of birth as Jan 1848. John's DOB was June 26, 1860. Now this is where it gets confusing, if you look at the 1920 census for Olive, St Joseph Indiana, it lists a John Lodyga who was born 1842 (remember I said the 1900 Buffalo census listed John's DOB as 1842). My husband thinks this is only a coincidence. I think either John's father John was visiting and gave the DOB to the census taker or My great-grandfather John gave his DOB as his father's because if miscommunication.

Currently I am trying to find the church in Buffalo where Maryanna and Jan were married in. I may have to Inactive record center to find it. Our library only carries records of marriages after 1913. My other dead end is Adam Lodyga (Jan's son) is buried next to Jan at St Adelbert's cemetery in Cheektowaga, NY. I am searching for his death record, but I can not find it in the Buffalo records or New York State records. I was thinking that maybe he died in Indiana, but your records are from 1920 and earlier and he died in 1921. Do you know where I can search the death records in Indiana for 1921? Or do I need to order it through the state and pay $10 and hope that I find it? I don't know if they would have shipped a body back then? I know that since they were Roman Catholic, cremation would have been out of the question. I do not even know the exact day he died, because the cemetery records were burned. But I want his death certificate to find out who Jan's 1st wife was.

Oh well, like I mentioned I have a lot more questions than answers. Thank you so much for looking that up for me. I definitely think that the South Bend Lodyga's are related, I just have to prove it. I have my family tree posted on ancestry.com if you would like to look at it.
