SOUTH BEND, IN - Eugene “Gene” Zbieranski passed away peacefully December 30, 2018 at his home in Colorado Springs, CO. He was born on February 27, 1928 in South Bend, IN to Louis and Kathryn Zbieranski. He was 90 years old. Gene was a graduate of Holy Cross Catholic School in South Bend and St. Rita's High School in Chicago, IL. Gene served his country in the Army during the Korean War. On April 14, 1954 he married Catherine Martin, who preceded him in death in 1993. He was a devoted member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church for 63 years. Gene loved to travel, spend time with his grandchildren, and play golf. He played the game he loved until age 89. He could be found most days walking the track with his friends at the Loftus Sports Center at Notre Dame. He would often recall his trip to Rome and his audience with Pope Benedict. He is survived by three daughters, Carol Crenshaw of Gainesville, FL, Jan Mowle of Colorado Springs, CO, and Gail O'Rourke of Ada, MI. He is also survived by four grandchildren.There are no visitation or funeral arrangements at this time. A celebration of his life will take place in the summer of 2019.
