SOUTH BEND - Louise H. Gish, 89, passed away on Tuesday, August 12, 2014, at 7:35 PM at Sanctuary at St. Paul's in South Bend after a short illness. Louise was born on June 13, 1925, in Coaldale, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Michael and Suzanna Goitz. After the death of her father in a coal mine collapse, Louise and her two sisters moved to South Bend, Indiana, when her mother married John Avdeuk. Suzanna and John preceded her in death. Louise was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School where she participated in the orchestra as a violinist. On October 4, 1943, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in South Bend, Louise became the WW II bride of David J. Gish. Louise and David were married for 58 years when he preceded her in death in 2002. Louise was a professional violinist and member of the Musicians Union. Her musical career included the South Bend Symphony Orchestra, Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra, musical productions at Morris Civic, University of Notre Dame, and St. Mary's College of which some were Swan Lake, Fiddler on the Roof, West Side Story, The Nutcracker, Captain Kangaroo, and the Bob Hope Show. Louise gave private violin lessons in South Bend and LaPorte, IN. She lent a hand as a violinist to many local high school musicals, played for church ceremonies, weddings, and other business and professional events. Louise is survived by one daughter, Patricia (Robert) Collins of South Bend; one son, David Gish Jr. of South Bend; grandchildren, Shane Hansen and Marie Nimtz; seven great-grandchildren, Justin, Fawn, Ann Marie, Greg, Shawna, Rachel and Hailey; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Amber Marks; and three sisters, Florence Goitz Holland, Marie Goitz Michailoff and Julia Avdeuk Kellogg. Cremation has taken place. Burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery in South Bend. A private family memorial service will be at a later date. All Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 309 S.
