[N11800] Theodore “Ted” M. Szalewski
May 17, 1934 - Nov. 27, 2017

SOUTH BEND - Theodore M. Szalewski, 83, passed away on Monday, November 27, 2017, in Memorial Hospital. Ted was born May 17, 1934, in South Bend, to the late Matthew and Joann (Winnicki) Szalewski. In 1962, Ted married his loving wife, Barbara (Bernhardt) Szalewski. She preceded him in death in 1991. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Cynthia Szalewski, and brother, Carl Szalewski. Ted is survived by his sons, Ted Szalewski, Tom (Lisa) Szalewski, Tim Szalewski, & Troy (Tammy) Szalewski; grandchildren, TJ (Stephanie), Amber, Teddy, Shane, Ariel, Brittanny, Cody, & Preston Szalewski; 6 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Ralph Szalewski. Ted honorably served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He drove semis for 40 years until retiring in 1998 from USF Holland. Ted was a proud lifetime member of the Teamsters. Growing up, he was an all-star Altar Boy in St. Casimir's Catholic Church, and in his later years, a parishioner of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Ted enjoyed weight lifting, especially with his good friend, Tom Lynch. He also enjoyed driving around to visit with or help others and being outdoors. He was very proud of his home and yard. Ted loved nature, animals, and his family. He was a hard worker, good provider, and a dependable, caring person who would help anyone in need, even strangers. Everyone who met him will always remember him and his saying, “Fly straight.” Per Ted's wishes, a private family service will be held, and burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
