Lucille Ann (Rogers) Quaglia
July 18, 1924 - April 11, 2013 SOUTH BEND - Lucille Ann (Rogers) Quaglia, 88, died at home on Thursday, April 11, 2013. "When you leave the dance floor and move across the sky, tango to the moon and back before you say goodbye." Lucille was born in South Bend, IN, on July 18th, 1924. Her Radziszewski family: parents, Benjamin and Cecelia, brothers, John, Richard and Raymond, and sisters, Esther (Nicholson) and Sophia (Rogers) predeceased her. She leaves behind her son, Frank Quaglia Jr. of Barre, MA; two daughters, Patricia (Quaglia) Kennedy of Wilton, NH, and Susan (Quaglia) Brown of Lyndeborough, NH; seven grandchildren, Zachary, Jory and Forest Quaglia, Trevor and Cassandra Yahnian, and Sean and Evan Coronis; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. She joined the Navy in 1945 and served as a pharmacist's mate, third class, stationed at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Long Beach, CA. After her military service, she returned to South Bend and fell in love with ballroom dancing. She embarked on a career as a dance instructor and manager at various Arthur Murray Studios, where she achieved national sales recognition. She married one of her students, Frank Quaglia, and together they owned a series of dance studios. Lucille reared her family in Holden, MA. In later years, she worked as a bookkeeper at Quinsigamond Community College, Worcester, MA, until she retired. She took many classes there; her love of words and books inspired her to write a screenplay when she was in her seventies. In her retirement, Lucille volunteered at the Holden Gale Free Library, and enjoyed playing cards and bingo at the Holden and Barre Senior Centers. Following her wishes, she will be cremated and her ashes scattered in a beautiful place by family members in a private ceremony. A Celebration of Life Memorial for family and friends will be held in her honor; details will be announced at a later date. Simultaneous Masses will be said in Lucille's name at 8 am on Monday, April 22, 2013, at Saint George Church, 40 Brattle Street, Worcester, MA, and at Smith Center Chapel, 920 Wilber Street, South Bend, IN. Everyone is welcome. Graham Putnam and Mahoney Funeral Parlors, 838 Main Street, Worcester, MA, will handle arrangements. In lieu of flowers or donations, gift someone with a ballroom dance lesson.
