Gertrude Elsie Steinke 95, passed away on Wednesday March 9, 2022, surrounded by her loving family as she left this life and entered into Heaven. The daughter of Henry and Erna Reschke, Gertrude was born on August 6, 1926, in Mishawaka, IN. On October 5, 1946, she married Robert James Steinke, who preceded her in death; they were married for 54 years. Surviving family members are sons, Gregory (Paulette) Steinke of Mishawaka and Douglas (Jeannie) Steinke of South Bend and Cape Coral, FL; grandchildren, Ryan (Jessica) Steinke of South Bend, Noelle (Ray) Agostino of Cape Coral, FL and Brienne Steinke of Noblesville, IN; great-grandchildren, Oliver and Oakley Steinke of South Bend; and sister, Mary Ann Weber of Mishawaka. Gertrude was a lifelong resident of Mishawaka and graduated from Mishawaka High School in 1944. She worked at Uniroyal in Mishawaka after graduation where she met her husband, Robert. She was an active member at Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she served on the altar guild and the women’s sewing group for many years. She loved attending antique shows, craft bazars and garage sales. Viewing will be held from 2:00 - 7:00 PM on Monday, March 14, 2022, at Hahn’s Funeral Home 508 West 8th Street, Mishawaka. Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at Peace Evangelical Lutheran Church 16791 Cleveland Road, Granger. Final viewing at the Church will be at 10:00 AM with services beginning at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola. Reverend Steve Mischke will be presiding. “To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.” 2 Corinthians 5:8 “The dust returns to the ground it came from, and the spirit returns to God who gave it.” Ecclesiastes 12:7 The family would like to give special thanks to AseraCare Hospice Care of Mishawaka, IN for their excellent care and comfort they provided.
