South Bend - Joseph W. Krochmal, 78, passed away at 12:30am on Saturday, November 20, 2010 in the Sanctuary at St. Joseph. Joseph was born on July 5, 1932 in South Bend to the late John and Mary (Pazdziwra) Krochmal, Sr. Joseph was also preceded in death by brothers, Eddie and John, Jr.; sisters, Sophie Krokrowski and Emily Singleton; and a great-grandson, Patrick Michael who was a twin that died at birth. Joseph is survived by Gloria J. O'Banion of South Bend, his loving companion and the love and partner of his life; children, Louis O'Banion of South Bend, Candy O'Banion of Rosscommon, MI, Patrick O'Banion of Westville, IN, Rosemary O'Banion of South Bend, and Myrtle O'Banion of Meriden, WY; sister, Joan Krochmal of South Bend; nephew, Mike (Becky) Dobrzykowski of Clay Township; nieces, Cindy (Lester) Martin of Mishawaka; and Patsy (Bob) Wachtor of PawPaw, MI; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews; and one great-great-grandchild. Joseph was a hard worker. He delivered chickens to businesses as a young man, worked as an auctioneer before working at Studebakers and at Allied Stamping for 30 years before retiring in 1997. He was a fun loving "Happy Go Guy" who was loved by his family and friends and was loved by him so dearly. He will be greatly missed. His parents came from Warsaw, Poland, then moved to Chicago Heights, IL and then finally settled in South Bend. He was a wonderful father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather. He had a special grandson, Louis E. O'Banion III, who he had a unique bond with as they called each other partners. A special "Thank You" to Sanctuary at St. Joseph, American Nursing and St. Joseph Funeral Home for their loving care. Memorial Contributions may be made to Catholic Charities 1817 Miami St. South Bend, IN 46613 or to the Donor's Choice. Visitation will be from 9:00am to 10:30am on Wednesday, November 24, 2010 in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd. A Funeral Liturgy will begin at 11:00am on Wednesday, November 24, 2010 in St. Adalbert Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
