[N32692] C. Dennis Blanz
February 20, 1935 ~ July 8, 2022 (age 87)

C. Dennis Blanz, 87 years old, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 8, 2022 at home surrounded by his loving family. Dennis was born on February 20, 1935 in Chicago, IL, to the late Herta and Ludwig Blanz. Dennis is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marjorie (Cloherty); their daughters, Barbara (Andy) Hidde of Whitestown, IN; Jennifer (John) Staud of Granger, IN; and Micki (Butch) Humbert of Carmel, IN; and two sisters, Dolores Miller of Des Plaines, IL, and Jayne Irlbacker of Marshall, TX. Dennis was the proud grandfather of nine: Lindsey (Jon) Stahre, Rachel (Nathan) Hidde, Mary Hidde, Rachel (James) Reilly, Joseph Staud, Anna Staud, AJ Humbert, Max Humbert and Sarah Humbert. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and friends. Dennis attended the United States Naval Academy, DePaul University, and Loyola University in Chicago, where he earned an M.B.A. He served several years on the USS Taluga. A retired Naval Reserve Commander, Dennis volunteered for many years as a Blue and Gold Officer, both in Illinois and Florida. As such, he interviewed candidates for the Naval Academy and, later, served on Governor Graham’s selection committee for the United States military academies. In 1982, Dennis moved his family to Boca Raton, FL, where he opened a trust office for the then Continental Illinois National Bank, now Bank of America. He retired as a senior vice president of Bank of America in Boca Raton, FL. During his career, he was active in many professional and community organizations. He was an officer and director of the Financial Analyst Society of South Florida and a fellow of the Financial Analysts Federation. Dennis and his beloved wife were blessed to have many adventures both before and after retirement. Over the years, they had the good fortune to travel throughout North America, Europe, and the South Pacific. He loved to talk about the South Island of New Zealand, which he maintained was the most beautiful place he had ever seen. After retirement, Dennis and Marge moved to Granger, IN, to be closer to their daughters and grandchildren. Dennis was never happier than when he was spoiling his grandchildren with love and treats. Joy radiated from his face as he invented games (such as “Points”) in which everyone earned a prize. As devout Catholic, faith was the foundation of Dennis’ life, and he reflected his love of God in his private and professional life. He now rests with the saints in the constant presence of God. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Monday, July 18, 2022 at Christ the King Catholic Church, 52473 State Road 933, South Bend, IN. There will be a brief visitation from 10:00-11:00am in the church vestibule, prior to Mass. Graveside services and interment will be held at a later date at Cedar Grove Cemetery on the campus of the University of Notre Dame. Palmer Funeral Home-Hickey Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Dennis may be sent to Christ the King Catholic Church, ATTN: Food Pantry, 52473 State Road 933, South Bend, IN 46637.
