SOUTH BEND - James G. "Gust" Caras, 75, of Riverview, FL, formerly of South Bend, IN passed away at 12:42 p.m. Sunday, August 11, 2013 at Lifehouse Hospice, Sun City, FL. He was born on June 12, 1938 in South Bend, IN to the late Gust and Mildred (Hart) Caras. In 1975 he married the former Linda L. Priller who preceded him in death in 1985. James is survived by his daughter, Kathleen (William) Ritter of PA; son, Nathan J. Caras of Mishawaka, IN and two grandchildren, Olivia and Laynie Caras. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and sister, Mary Lou Dryfus. James was a lifelong resident of South Bend living the last ten years in FL. He served his country honorably in the United States Navy. He retired in 1997 as a Union Electrician for IBEW #153 in South Bend. He enjoyed sailing and restoring automobiles. He was a member of F.L.E.A. and the Porsche Club of America. A Memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 24, 2013 at the Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend, IN where friends may visit from 11:00-1:00 p.m. Graveside services will follow in Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend.
