Obituary for Edwin M Trzaskowski
SOUTH BEND-Edwin M. Trzaskowski, 94, of Crumstown died peacefully at home, where he wanted to be, on Monday, June 18, 2018. Ed was born to Helen (Andrzejak) and Michael S. Trzaskowski on December 30, 1923. He and his siblings Joseph, Clara, Tadeusz and Stanley were raised on the family's farm in New Carlisle. They are now all rejoined in Heaven. On June 14, 1947, Ed married Betty Pinkowski, who undoubtedly embraced her "Eddie" at the Gates of Paradise. Together with "Ma" or "Liz," as he called her, they raised two sons, Larry (Sandi) Lewinski and Mike (Cindy Fay). From there the family grew to include grandchildren - Ryan (Clarice) and Kristin Gaines (Brooke), children of Karen and Mike - great grandchildren - Dominic, Abi, Chase and Jack - and honorary grandchildren - Deb and Cory. An extended family of nieces, nephews and shirttail relations are scattered across the States and possibly beyond. Ed was a graduate of New Carlisle High School. He served this great nation in the US Navy and was a member of VFW. He worked at Studebaker, Torrington and Allied Signal. Ed and Betty were members of Holy Family Church. They loved traveling in their camper and later their motor home across much of the United States. Their refrigerator was plastered with a map of the US made out of state-shaped magnets. Ed loved gardening, picking mushrooms and taking drives, especially ones that ended with Sherman's Ice Cream. Although a reserved man, Ed was a steadfast caregiver to his father for several years in the nursing home and to Betty through two significant illnesses. As his health declined, his sons were able to return the favor with the help of great organizations and caregivers - Comfort Keepers (Elizabeth), Home Instead (Rosita and Tammy), Senior 1 Care (Rachel, Elizabeth, Cheri and Mimi) and Great Lakes Caring Hospice (Sarah, Bruce, Bobbie, and Laurie). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, June 21 at 11:00 a.m. in Holy Family Church, 56405 Mayflower Rd., South Bend, IN 46619, with Fr. Daryl Rybicki preciding. The family will receive guests beginning at 9:00 a.m. in the church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family asks that contributions be made to Holy Family Church, Great Lakes Caring Foundation, 2515 N Bendix Drive #100, South Bend, IN 46628 or any charity.
