SOUTH BEND - Albert S. Rakowski, 80, of South Bend, passed away on Thursday, September 10, 2015, at Hospice House, South Bend. He was born on July 5, 1935, in Niles, MI, to the late Sylvester and Hildegarde (Winkel) Rakowski. On October 17, 1959, he married Carol Stebbins, who survives. He is also survived by his son, Bradley Rakowski of South Bend; two daughters, Barbara (Randy) Whitt of Granger, IN, and Holly (Andrew) Giden of Mishawaka; four grandchildren, Andrea Whitt of Bloomington, IN, Brittney and Amber Hosler and Andrew Giden, Jr, all of Mishawaka; a brother, Henry (Janet) Rakowski of Niles, MI; two nephews, Tim (Fran) Rakowski of Niles and Rick Rakowski of Sarasota, FL; and by two nieces, Donna Rakowski and Kim (Golden) Rakowski of Mishawaka. Mr. Rakowski worked for Hover Trucking and the former Express Freight for 35 years before retiring in 2001. He was a United States Army Air Corps veteran, where he was a proud member of the "Hells Angels" Paratrooper 101st Airborne. He enjoyed fishing, traveling and stamp collecting. Visitation will be from 12 to 2 p.m. Saturday, September 12, 2015, at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home, with burial to follow at Riverview Cemetery, South Bend.
