GOSHEN - Joseph V. Calabrese, 84, of rural Goshen, died Wednesday, March 16, 2016, at 10:00 am at his residence. Mr. Calabrese was born on June 12, 1931, in Albany, New York, to the late Anthony and Lillian (Delorenzo) Calabrese. On November 6, 1955, he married Cleona Spratt, and she preceded him in death on July 13, 2009.He was the longtime owner and operator of the Parkway Inn in Elkhart. Prior to that he was a 1949 Elkhart High School graduate that went on to proudly served his country in the United States Marines as a Sergeant during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of St. Vincent's de Paul Catholic Church in Elkhart. Joe enjoyed the company of people; he also loved animals, at one time he raised peacocks. In his spare time he enjoyed watching sports, he was an avid Chicago Bears, Cubs and Bulls fan. Surviving are three daughters and two sons, Cindy Hostetler of South Bend, Sharon (Kenneth) Rogers and Karen Morgan, both of Goshen, James A. Calabrese and Anthony M. Calabrese, both of Bristol. Also surviving are five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and two first cousins, Gina (Minelli) Carroll and Fortunato Porpiglia. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and one brother and one sister, Peter Calabrese and Josephine Moody. Visitation will be on Monday, March 21, 2016, from 10:00 to 12:00 pm at the Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home in Elkhart. Funeral services will be private.
