[N13239] Christine O'Hara
June 17, 1951 - Dec. 22, 2006

SOUTH BEND - On December 22, 2006, Christine was reunited in heaven with loved ones preceding her in death to become one of God's angels: Alan Keith (son), Patricia Christlieb (sister), Irene Libertowski (mother) and Chester Libertowski (father), and her nephews, Tab and Bear (godson). Christine attended Washington High School and graduated in 1968 at Beaufort High School in South Carolina where she relocated temporarily during her senior year. In 1971 she married Charles O'Hara Jr. She worked at the County-City building where she was stricken ill with a hereditary heart condition, befriending the then Mayor Joe Kernan and staff. In 1990 Christine received the gift of a second chance at life by being one of the areas first heart transplant patients at Indianapolis' Methodist Hospital and broadening the communities' awareness of organ donations through local television and radio interviews. Christine was blessed with that second chance of life, fulfilling her dream of watching her boys grow up, marry, develop careers and, most of all, experience grandchildren. Christine is survived by a beloved stepmother, Yolanda Libertowski of South Bend; her children, Sean (Tina) O'Hara and Shane (Jenny) O'Hara; grandchildren, Brianna O'Hara, Devin O'Hara and Gabrielle Jimenz; sisters, Georgianne Freet of Marion, IN, and Janice Taylor of Mulliken, MI; and brother, John Libertowski of Granger, IN. Also godchildren, Tara Christlieb of Marion, IN, and Jennifer Miller of Indianapolis, IN; along with a host of second children, family and best friends. Memorial services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 26, in the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 South Michigan Street, South Bend, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to services. In her spirit of giving, contributions in memory of Christine O'Hara may be made to the family, which will be offered to an annual fund for various children's causes to be named in her honor.
