David A. Schmitt, Sr., 84, of Mishawaka, IN, passed away on Tuesday, September 13, 2022. David was born on November 7, 1937, in E. Saint Louis, IL to Charles A. Sophia (Zysk) Schmitt. He retired in 2001 from Honeywell (Bendix-Mishawaka) after 34 years of employment as a Project Electrical Engineer. He later worked 3 years as a Consultant to Orbital Sciences in South Bend. On May 8, 1965, he married the love of his life, former Marilyn L. Nicolini who preceded him in death on August 16, 2022. Surviving him are his sons, David A. Schmitt, Jr. (Wendy) of South Bend, IN and John M. Schmitt of Mishawaka, IN; five grandchildren, Brianna McIntosch (Garry), Jessica Martin (Allen), Kayla, Ryan and Katherine Schmitt; brothers, Paul J. Schmitt and Joseph M. Schmitt of Illinois; sister, Ruthann Schmitt; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews and friends. David was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Rachel Ann Schmitt; brothers, Bro. Charles J. Schmitt, S.M. and John Schmitt; and sister, Sister Maria Cordis, S.S.N.D. David was a 1959 graduate of St. Louis University and a member of the St. Joseph Parish in Mishawaka. He was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team, and Notre Dame football and basketball teams. David was a kind, caring and generous person who will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to have their lives touched by him. Mass of Christian Burial for David and Marilyn will be at on Friday, October 7, 2022, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 225 S. Mill Street, Mishawaka, IN with Father Chris Lapp officiating. Entombment will take place in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park in Granger, IN. Contributions can be made in memory of David and Marilyn to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mishawaka, IN.
