Kenneth J. Goethals, 70, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday July 13, 2022, after a brief and unexpected battle with Severe Aplastic Anemia. He is survived by his wife, Emily (Germano) Goethals; his daughter, Haley Lake (Reuben) of Spokane, WA; and his brother, Norman (Gail) Goethals of Muncie, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents Pete and June Goethals. Kenneth graduated from Marian High School, Mishawaka, in 1970. He then went on to receive a degree in Business at Indiana University of South Bend. Kenneth served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam war. He retired from the Kroger company in 1988 and eventually became a caregiver to both of his parents in their later years up until their deaths. Kenneth loved nature and the outdoors including camping, mushroom hunting, and watching birds and wildlife. He especially loved floating in their pond. He enjoyed spending time and laughing with friends and loved ones around the campfire, at family gatherings, and while playing cards. A heartfelt thank you to the nurses at the SJRMC Infusion Center for their compassionate care and advocacy in regard to Kenny’s treatment. He was literally “One in a Million.” A Memorial Gathering will be held from 3 pm-5 pm on Friday, July 22, 2022, at Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th St, Mishawaka, IN 46544.
