Stephan J. "Pete" Chikar, 97, of South Bend, Indiana passed away on Saturday, February 20, 2016 in Taylor Manor Nursing Home, Versailles, Kentucky. He was born on August 23, 1918 in South Bend, Indiana to Stephen M. and Gizella (Szucs) Chikar, and was a lifelong resident. Stephan had been employed with Studebaker and Singers. He had also worked as a security guard with Rockwell Standard. He is survived by his brother, Elmer Chikar of South Bend, Indiana; and by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Murray and Pauline Molenda; and one brother, Ernest Chikar. A Mass of Christian Burial took place at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, February 25, 2016 in Holy Family Church. Burial followed in Highland Cemetery, where members of the American Legion Post #284 conducted Military Services. Visitation took place from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a rosary was prayed at 7:00 p.m. Stephan was a member of Holy Family Parish. He was a W.W. II Army Air Force Veteran.
