Ervin J. Skodinski, 86, formerly of 2381 Redfield Road, Niles, Mich., died of a brief illness at 5 a.m. on Thursday, May 8, at Woodfield Manor in Niles.He was born on Nov. 28, 1910, in South Bend, Ind., to Joseph and Catherine (Kurtis) Skodinski. He had lived his lifetime in this area. Mr. Skodinski was a retired employee of Bendix/Allied Signal and was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Niles. He was first married to Virginia (Cwiklinski) Skodinski, who died on Dec. 2, 1984. He later married Cecil Marie Skodinski, who died in July of 1978. On Aug. 9, 1980, in Niles, he married Mary (Horvath) Skodinski, who preceded him in death on May 22, 1989. He was also preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Anna Marie McAbee, who died on April 26, 1996. He is survived by his son, Robert Skodinski of Mishawaka, Ind.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; stepdaughters, Mrs. Elizabeth McQuaid of Michigan and Mrs. Jeanette Seltzer of Mishawaka; eight step-grandchildren; eight step-great-grandchildren; sisters, Mrs. Frances Taberski of South Bend, and Mrs. Geraldine Pierce and Mrs. Ramona Buzas, both of Mishawaka; and by three brothers, Harry Skodinski and Clem Skodinski, both of South Bend, and Donald Skodinski of Mishawaka. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. (Michigan time) on Monday at St. Mary Catholic Church in Niles, with the Rev. Stephen E. Naas officiating. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Niles. The family will receive friends from 2 to 6 p.m. (Michigan time) on Sunday at the Halbritter Funeral Home, where the Rosary will be recited at 5:30 p.m. Contributions in memory of Mr. Skodinski may be made to Hospice at Home or to St. Mary Catholic Church.
